Bake the cake
Prepare and bake the chocolate cake according to package directions in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Let cool slightly. -
Add the coconut layer
In a bowl, mix sweetened condensed milk and shredded coconut.
Spread evenly over the warm cake, gently pressing it into the surface. -
Make the chocolate topping
Heat heavy cream and butter in a small saucepan until hot but not boiling.
Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips until smooth and glossy. -
Finish the cake
Pour the chocolate frosting evenly over the coconut layer.
Spread gently to cover. -
Chill and serve
Refrigerate at least 1 hour to set. Slice and serve.
