Prepare the apples
Preheat oven to 350°F / 175°C.
Place sliced apples in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar. -
Add the cake layer
Evenly sprinkle the dry cake mix over the apples. -
Top with butter
Drizzle melted butter over the cake mix to help it crisp and brown during baking. -
Bake
Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the top is golden and the apples are bubbly. -
Serve
Let cool slightly, then serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.
