Southern Fried Chicken Batter

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 2–3 lbs chicken pieces (drumsticks, thighs, wings, or breasts)

Buttermilk Soak

  • 2 cups buttermilk

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp paprika

Seasoned Batter / Coating

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp paprika

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil or peanut oil
