Cook potatoes in milk and butter
Place potatoes, milk, butter, and a pinch of salt in a large saucepan.
Cover and simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until potatoes are tender (about 15–20 minutes). -
Mash and season
Remove from heat and mash potatoes directly in the milk-butter mixture.
Add more milk if needed for desired creaminess.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. -
Serve immediately
Top with extra butter or fresh herbs if desired.
